Arbitration Court of Saint-Petersburg and the Leningrad Region dismissed the claim of Rosprirodnadzor against Volgotanker to recover 6 bn roubles from the shipping company for the oil spill in the Strait of Kerch in 2007.
The judicial decree was announced on Wednesday. The declaration will be announced later on.
Rosprirodnadzor failed to present the indispensible evidence to the court. However, Russia cannot refuse these claims.
Rosprirodnadzor presented the stated claims worth 700 000 roubles which were acknowledged by all parties involved.
The court decided to postpone the hearings for October 29 where the claims of regional administration against the defendants, concerning the reparation of damages caused by the oil spill, will be considered.
In the result of the accident in the Strait of Kerch on November 11, 2007 about 2000 tons of fuel oil spilled out of the ship Volgoneft-139. The ship was operated by Volgotanker Shipping Company.
Rosprirodnadzor filed claims against the shipping company to recover 6.049 bn roubles for the environmental damage. (USD1 = RUB30.8001)
